Pansey Nelson County Health System Care Center History

The Center was licensed as a nursing home when it was sold to Friendship Homes, Inc., on April 1st, 1966.  The Board included Rev. G.L. Riffe as President along with Rev. Wm. V. Amundson and Rev. Don Waggoner.  The Facility was sold to HMU Management Corporation and managed by Alpha, Inc., with Rev. Wm. J. Amundson as President.  The Facility was known as Friendship Manor.

HMU Management Corporation assumed management on January 1st, 1988 and the facility was known as Friendship Healthcare Center.  HMU Management Corporation is owned by Glen Urquhart and based in Edina, Minnesota, with Glen Urquhart as President.

On January 1, 1998, the City of McVille purchased the Friendship Healthcare Center and assumed ownership, under the direction of an elected Board of Directors representative of our service area.  Continuing to operate as one part of the entire Nelson County Health System, under the direction of Cathy Swenson, Administrator, we are now known as the Care Center, licensed as a 46 bed Medicare and Medicaid facility providing skilled nursing services twenty-four hours a day 7 days a week, under the direction of our Medical team consisting of Dr. Cowasji, medical Director; and Board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics; Dr. Erling Martinson, Family Practitioner and our nurse practitioner, Darlene Kelly ARNP. Contracted service by licensed professionals in Pharmacy, Social Work, Rehabilitative Services, Diabetes Education, and Psychiatric Care, as well as Dental and Optometry referrals are also available. In order to meet the personal daily needs of our residents, we also provide Barber, Beauty, Housekeeping, and Laundry services.

Spiritual Care is provided by area Pastors and Priests and is a vital part of the Care Center's Holistic approach for our resident's well being. Non denominational services are held weekly with monthly communion and weekly Bible Studies. Catholic Mass is also available on a monthly basis.

The completion of a facility wide renovation and remodeling project has added to the home like atmosphere of our facility.
