Tree Conditions in the McVille Area
McVille Tree City USA 1997-2011

McVille celebrated it's Arbor Day, June 8, 2011. This is McVille's 14th year of being a Tree City USA. The City also earned it's 6th Growth Award for activities performed in 2010.
The ceremony began at the McVille City Main Street Park. Mayor Stanley welcomed the Shade Tree Committee and attendees. Gerri Makay, ND Community Forestry Specialist was on hand to present the City with it's official flag, pins and plaques.
The attendees motored to the McVile Dam where a new area has been designated by the McVille Park District and McVille Shade Tree Committee for planting of trees in honor or memory of certain McVille individuals. This year's honoree was Silas Engebretson. Silas is a Charter Member of the Shade Tree Committee established in 1997. He was also very instrumental in maintaining, pruning, water and caring for many trees around our community, including the McVille Country Club. Pastor and Shade Tree Committee person, Lynn Kinneberg stated the following about Silas.
Following the dedication the group moved to the east side of the McVille Baseball Diamond to view the 8 trees planted under the America The Beautiful Grant. The variety of trees planted where Ohio Buckeye and Tatarian Maple.
Cookies and refreshments were served at the City office after the planting ended at the McVille City Office.

McVille was also honored at a Horticultural Tour held at the NDSU Research Center in Carrington June 10th. Members Silas Engebretson, Clifford Sateren, and Renae Arneson attended with Mayor Stanley and his wife, Sharon, and Mrs. Lorene Sateren.
